Back to the canal zone, and some new arrivals since late May: a couple of white crested ducks and a Pekin duck between them.
I’ve seen a couple of abandoned nests, but obviously eggs are hatching and new life is emerging somewhere along the canal: six young muscovy duck chicks …
… and with their mother, flapping her wings to warn off passing moorhens, grackles, alligators, and photographers (three of these four were present, as far as I could see).
Dragonfly, possibly a slaty skimmer.
